Krajete for the Oil & Gas industry

The new trend in Oil and Gas industry – Safeguarding CO₂ pipelines by removing NOx and SOx

AT A GLANCE

Oil companies worldwide are turning to carbon capture for a competitive edge. Yet, transporting CO₂ through pipelines can lead to troubles when acidic and corrosive impurities such as NOx and SOx harm compressors and degrade infrastructure.

Our regenerative adsorber technology solves this by capturing and removing impurities down to 10 ppm, ensuring smooth, corrosion-free CO₂ flow.

THE NEED

The client’s [undisclosed] onshore facility was processing close to 2,000 m³/h of CO₂ to transport through a dedicated pipeline stretching several kilometres. Although this pipeline had adequate pressure handling, it was never built to accommodate acidic gases.

Tests confirmed that even a low concentration of 10 ppm of NOx, SOx, and H₂S could combine with moisture to form corrosive acids inside the line, raising fears of internal corrosion and unexpected failures.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Lowered CAPEX
Avoiding expensive refits, repairs and operations downtimes by preventing corrosion in pipelines and compressors. Our smooth, regenerative process helped the client save millions in capital expenditure down the line.
  • Protected Asset
Oil & Gas pipelines and compression systems weren’t built for acidic or corrosive flows. With our holistic gas-purification solution, the client is now able to maintain asset integrity, boosting equipment life and reducing downtime.
  • Removed Impurties
NOx and SOx are now removed at low ppm levels, ensuring cleaner CO₂ pipelines and sidestepping costly maintenance.
  •  Valorised Impurities
Rather than scrubbing and discarding impurities, our system recovers these contaminants. Providing the client with a new revenue stream (nitric acid production).

PROJECT OUTCOMES

  • Through our regenerative adsorber system, the client was able to bring their NOx & SOx levels comfortably below 10 ppm.
  • Early figures suggest this new setup could extend the operational life of the pipeline by at least a decade without invasive retrofits
  • The adsorber’s mild, non-destructive process ensures that the collected pollutants are recovered for industrial use in the form of nitric acid production—instead of being flared or neutralised with costly chemicals.

Overall, the client effectively future-proofed its CO₂ transport system, demonstrating how cutting-edge emissions management can simultaneously protect assets, reduce costs, and unlock new revenue streams.
